don't take this the wrong way but, aren't you maybe being a little penny wise and dollar foolish?

you have obviously spent some serious cash on equipment and you also obviously have the know-how to perpetuate (either through pollenation or cloning) any strain you have. why would you hesitate to spend maybe $200.00 for a couple premium strains?

i don't know, maybe it's just me but, as a guy living so far below the poverty line that calling my stuff 'DIY' is a kindness, 'makeshift' would probably be closer to the mark. i don't even have a ph\ec meter.
that being said, my next $100.00+ purchase will be for some good genetics, i was checking Nirvana.com and they have many strains for $40.00 - $50.00 for 10 seeds
i hope to get myself 3 strains and collect pollen from males from each strain, then, down the road, i'd like to try crossing them, either way, i expect to grow those 3 strains for some years into the future so the expense will be an investment, not a cost.

anyway, thanks for posting your progress, your results, details of your set-up, lol, etc..., etc..., etc...
