Erm, I believe that's just a specialty plate (which you may purchase , or not) and is not the official one.

Yes, we understand that. Just as my state has several, which you may pruchase for an additional fee and the proceeds get donated to things like cancer research, fish and wildlife, early childhood education, etc... but no money goes to any church groups! It's not supposed to work like that! The government is NOT meant to be helping religious groups fundraise; it's AGAINST THE LAW! But what does the law matter these days? Grrrr.

Believe it or not, there was a court case in New Hampshire about exactly that. A NH resident put a bit of masking tape over the part of the official state license plate that says 'Live Free Or Die', just covering the part that says 'Or Die' (the font on that plate stands only ~3/4" so the bit of tape was probably only 2 inches long). He claimed that he was offended by that part of the statement because he did not believe it was our right to choose death or martyrdom or something along those lines. He was charged with obscuring vehicle tags, even though the tag number, expiration, and issuing state were still visible.

Well, once again I'll be the odd one out on this. These personalized plates are for the amusement of the individual...nothing more. Whether it be a football team, military style, etc....it all relates to a persons "hobby" for lack of better terms.

As for the "faith based youth groups"....as long as it isn't costing the rest of the tax payers anything big deal. Makes me wonder if there are any sort of subsidy from plate sales for new sports statiums. What about those that don't give a rats about the NFL?

Let someone from Chicago go rolling through Green Bay with a Bears license plate....LOL, they'll get the same reception as an athiest looking at an "I Believe" plate.

    Have a good one!

I believe you are reaching to make the argument that somenhow the government of Florida has been compromised, or done something bad.

Until they FORCE you to buy the plate against your will, then I don't think you have a leg to stand on. Fact is you don't have to buy the plate or have any of your money going to that charity. You do have a choice correct? Sweet Feathery Jesus go get a warm glass of water please, I bet there are better things to get outraged over in Florida, if you don't believe, then don't buy it for christ fuckin' sake! If you do believe then you can choose to! Like one of the first replies stated, I don't know that it's a fact, but if anyone can get enough signatures then there's nothing wrong with what they did.
IT WOULD ACTUALLY BE WRONG TO NOT ALLOW A RELIGIOUS GROUP TO DO THAT IF THEY ALLOWED ANYONE ELSE!! HELLO? McFly? You see, if they ONLY allowed them or allowed anyone to except for them then there should be outcry. Not the other way around?:wtf:

oook......read your own signature lately? sure you dont need a warm glass of water...Church and state shoudl be SEPERATE! do you think they would let the Church of Satan do a plate? NO...so to appease the masses, no religion should be allowed on state plates. I see this tend to be a tender subject for ya skush....but, we do live in a society where people are allowed opinions....it is possible to have yours with out all that shit.....thanks...Mcfly.......

From what I can tell the state does not have an endorsed religion? IF satanists got the required sigies, would they let them? I dunno you tell me you live there! I would hope so. And if they did, it doesn't mean they are endorsing it.

Why do you say that? Really? I am not really religious at all. I don't believe really, don't go to church, but am not offended or threatened by a license plate that is expressing an opinion of another citizen, NOT THE STATE OF FLORIDA!!!!

Really! Really!, So if I move to Florida and want to buy one of those tags, you would rather they not even be offered? People are allowed to express opinions as long as they don't bother you? Is that it? That's not what this country is about sorry.

Sorry for the offensive language, it's just that religion is such a touchy subject LMAO!!! C'mon, I thought that my post was laced pretty heavily with sarcasm, hence the "Sweet Feathery Jesus, Christ Fucking Sakes, ect..." believe me I could care less about "religion", but I do believe that "everyone" is entitled to their opinion, not just people with opinions that I agree with. The profanity was just to be sure that I equally offended both sides of the argument ha ha ha! Lighten up, the state of florida isn't going to force you into a church, nor endorse a religion to the exclusion of all others, IT'S AN OPTIONAL LICENSE PLATE. COMPLAIN WHEN THEY MAKE YOU BUY THAT ONE, NOT WHEN IT IS ONE OF MULTIPLE CHOICES. AND ESPECIALLY NOT IF THEY ALLOW YOU A PROCESS TO CREATE YOUR OWN!!!!

This instance with the plates in Florida is hardly even close to an example of government being to close to a particular church. Perspective folks. Go to Iran if you want to see a a real theocracy, not Florida!

I wouldn't associate that plate with religion unless it had some symbol. I thought when I first read the title, it was a Borat Osama plate for his campaign or something!
