small closet ventilation
Hey there, I am a newbie and just started a closet and I am using aSUN SYSTEM® 5 ECONO GRO MINI 400w hps with built in ballast my closet is heating up so much I am having keeping temps under control. I currently have a 5 inch fan above the light that vents out the upperside of the closet and 2 4 inch fans on either side of the closet.
I have had to keep the door on my closet open at all times. There is a vent on one side to hook a ventilation system into the light in to the light but it only is on side what do i do with this
can anyone please help me with my ventilation issue. the dimensions of the closet are 2and 1/2 feet wide by 3 and 1/2 ft deep and 9 and 1/2 ft tall.

from what it sounds like you will hook up your exhaust hose to the flange on your aircooled hood. the hood should have vents or if not then take off the glass and pull the air through there.
where are you exhausting too? the attic? or right outside your cabinet?
running a 400 in a small area you will probibly need a quality inline fan
good luck

Do you have an air intake going into your closet.
sounds like you need cool air flowing in there man.:thumbsup:Stinkyattic\'s troubleshooting form.

Thanks for the info I found an air cooled fan and i am going to purchase it tomorrow. I am venting in to my beedroom at the moment but in a week am going to be moving my room to a closet that is about 3&1/2 ft by 4 ft and i will be able to vent in to the attic. If i do end up having to put in a cold air intake what do you reccomend?

It depends on how much air that you need to move so i can not really comment on what fan you will need.

another easy fix is to rewire you light so it is remote ballasted. just disconnect the mogul socket and ad wire to it then reconnect the socket to the end of the wire. your reflector housing will be the ballast which you can keep outside the growspace. just remove the reflective material from the inside of the reflector housing and mount it above the socket inside the grow. sorry if my explanation is a bit confusing but once you get started its pretty self explanitory just make sure the wire is a thick enough gauge and use wirenuts AND electrical tape for all connections,

if the funds are there i would recomend buying a vortex or similar inline fan. I am using a 600 watt with a cool tube in a closet very similar to yours and it is staying nice and cool in there with my 6" vortex fan. I also have the fan and filter mounted in the attic with bungees so it has almost no sound. I built a shelf about 1.5 feet off the ground and put in 3 3 inch abs elbow's, so it appears the closet is normal with no light coming from under the door.
