    Panic attacks after smoking

I've had panic attacks since 2 years ago and I've seen a psychologist for it. Well starting this year in September I've started smoking weed and it's been great, I always couldn't wait until the weekend to smoke until around a month ago.

I just started smoking cigarettes but I found out I was starting to get addicted to them so I quit but then I started getting panic attacks for the first time in months which I thought was caused by the cigarettes. Then ever since I quit smoking cigarettes I've had a panic attack before smoking weed. I'd want to avoid smoking at all costs and this has never happened before.

Well, 3 days ago I smoked in school from a dealer I didn't know. He didn't tell me what kind of bud it was but it must have been good because I was bugging out. I wasn't showing that I was bugging out but I was. My heart was pounding really fast which always happens but something that never happens is I was having a panic attack while being high and it scared me. Then later that day I was hanging out with my friends and I was dumb as hell. I was slow on everything and it took me about a minute to process what everyone was saying. I had a friend who smokes weed a lot and is practically addicted to it who acts the same way I was. Just, stupid as hell and I didn't want to end up like him. I was feeling this after the high wore off for 3 more days. And I was still feeling it up until 2 hours ago but now I'm fine thankfully.

But that still doesn't change the condition of my panic attacks. After smoking that weed I'm even more paranoid about smoking more. I don't know if me being paranoid is causing the panic attacks or the weed is causing the panic attacks. My paranoia causes panic attacks a lot when weed is not involved so it may just be paranoia. But my psychologist said that weed and cigarettes cause panic attacks so it's a scary thought for me to have to give up smoking weed even though I love doing it so much.

Another thing is I have a VERY low tolerance for weed. One time I smoked very crappy bud but after one hit I had to stop because I was bugging out. And since 4/20 is next week I'm picking up $25 worth of weed. I don't know what's going to happen to me, is $25 worth of weed going to be dangerous for me? And will I have to quit? I don't want to quit right before 4/20 because I've been waiting for this day for a month now, ever since my friends told me about 4/20 and I would have to quit the week right before over my stupid panic attacks.

So, in the end what I want to know is what caused my panic attack? Was it the weed since I don't know what kind it was? Was it my paranoia? Was it because I suffer from panic attacks even before weed? Or was it caused by smoking cigarettes? And also will I have to quit smoking? Please note though that this is the first time I've had a panic attack from smoking weed in my life.

Oh and before I forget. My heart rate always goes through the roof when I smoke weed. Every single time. Is this unhealthy and should I be worried?

Thank you in advance for helping out a weed noob.

The best thing you can do is to take a break for a couple weeks, and the next time you toke up to just be alone and chill. Set the mood: put on some music, light some incense, have a chick over or something. Do what will make you feel the most comfortable; a lot of the time your reaction to a drug is because of what environment you are in. I've been in bad situations before, and it definitely affects my high and its perception. Or you could just keep on freakin'. Learn to control it, yo!:rastasmoke:

Exactly, due to the fact that you are still realitively new to things and haven't been "Medicating" for very long, or by the sounds of it, very much quantity, your highs will easily be affected by how your paranoia kicks in at different locations. School is a sketchy place to be really high if your not used to it. That goes away with time, the more experienced you become, the more you'll realize, "YOU are what gets you caught!" And when you learn your levels to maintain un-noticed but still "medicated", you'll realize that Paranoia is just that most of the time.

I spent the greater part of my Senior year heavily "Medicated" at school on a daily basis. Due to the fact that I still maintained a healthy persona, and in most classes, a good grade, there were never any issues.

I even got to the point in which I told some of my more oblivious teachers what was up just simply because I knew it wouldn't effect anything, and at the same time, get rid of the bad rap that this wonderous herb has amongst the Brainwashed Public.

As far as your $25 bucks worth, you'll probably be just fine to roll the whole thing up and smoke a fatty 4/20 blunt! a dub, an eighth, a quarter, a half... so on and so forth, won't cause you an issue. when I first started, I'd go through a 20 a night sometimes. Now-A-Days, at least a 20 a nights common amongst the friends.

    Hope that helps...

Oh no, I've blazed a lot of times in school and all my teachers know that I blaze so I wasn't scared of getting caught. I don't know what it is. It may be paranoia from my psychologist telling me that weed causes panic attacks but no matter what I do I can't convince myself that that isn't true.

I actually feel most comfortable when I'm with people and I blaze so for 4/20 I think I'm going to take it easy, still buy a lot but smoke it in intervals so I know when enough is enough. Is there anything I can do to ease my panic attacks before smoking though?

And is the increased heart rate while being high a bad sign?

    Panic attacks after smoking

Well, I thought in order to stop these panic attacks I'd have to get my tolerance up so I smoked a blunt yesterday during the end of school. I didn't go back to school and after we smoked it we just chilled. Before I took my first hit I had a crazy panic attack but after taking a hit I was feeling great. And I thought everything worked out okay, I had no panic attacks at all.

That is until I found out my mom switched my appointment with my psychologist to 3:15, right when I got back from school. So I went to my psychologist high and that's when I started getting panic attacks. And these panic attacks are still lasting to right now and because of them I'm missing a day of school.

Now I don't know what to do. The weed is probably triggering these panic attacks and I don't know if I can continue to live like this. Quitting is seeming like a better and better idea as time moves on. I mean if these panic attacks go on I don't want to miss any more days of school and I don't want it to have any permanent effects on me.

Can anyone please give me advice on what to do because I'm really lost on what to do. To anyone else who had panic attacks after smoking, did it ever prevent you from going to school and did it have any permanent effects on you? What did you do to stop it?

Maybe, I should have taken the week off like northbrook said, but if I took a week off wouldn't it make things worse since I'd be lowering my tolerance?

The herb don't cause panic attacks, people just react to situations bad. You're going to school and your psychologist while dazed and then you wonder why you're tweakin out. I know ganj is good for you and all, but sometimes you can act a little loopy. Going to a psychologist and acting like you're crazy isn't gonna help you. Focus on school, get high afterwards; just not when you go to your doctor. Bad situations make you freak out, and unless you can be blazed and not tweak out during them, go straight as an arrow. Like I said, chill out until 4/20, and just start the day by yourself. No school, friends, or parents to distract when you begin your day. Have something to eat, watch the sun rise, listen to music or whatever the hell you do. But please, for God's sake, stop going to the shrink baked.

EDIT: As for the panic attacks, it could be psychologically triggered. High stress situations will cause your body to react in ways that you can't control. Panic attacks are caused when the body feels threatened and subconsciously tries you make you leave that situation by feeling discomforted. I know that high-grade chronic does have the tendency to bring out underlying mental disorders. Do you take any other medication? If this is the case, then that might be your problem. When I first started toking, I was taking an allergy medication and wouldn't smoke and take it at the same time. I'm still like that; when I feel really miserable and stopped up, I take one but try to avoid combining any two medicines. I could feel more anxious/nervous when I had taken my allergy med and smoked. Any drugs you are on?

    Panic attacks after smoking

I really have no problem smoking in school because I've always done it and this was at the end of school anyway when I had my off periods. What really ****ed me up was 3 things. First my mom was supposed to go to work today but she didn't so I had to talk to my mom while high. Then I found out my mom moved my appointment from 7:30 to 3:30 so I didn't have enough time to sober up and finally I had to do some errands with my mom.

Maybe that's what triggered the panic attack but the problem is that all that happened yesterday and I'm still have panic attacks today.

I don't know, I'll try what you said and just blaze by myself. Could this be an issue of tolerance and since I took a break from smoking my tolerance has gone to shit and now anything will get me real fucked up? Because I used to have a pretty good tolerance to weed.

And also no, I'm on no medication.

I agree that this sounds like a conditioned response.

You're starting to associate the panic with the weed, perhaps.

In order to fix this, if this is indeed the problem, you should listen to the advice given above to control your set and setting firmly.

Start alone somewhere comfortable when you have nowhere else to be and no one else to answer to. Ease yourself out of it.

Don't smoke anywhere that will make you uncomfortable - I mean, I love being high, but there's a time and a place, you know?

Hope that helps - I agree, listen to some music that relaxes you, or watch the sunrise.

I dunno, I'm starting to think that it's the type of weed that's giving me panic attacks. Because sometimes my heart rate increases and I start to worry and I wish I never started smoking and then other times I smoke and it's the best feeling in the world and I wish I could do it everyday.

Well, I dunno what's up but 4/20 is today so I'm gonna see how it goes. I was hoping on smoking a 20 but I'm going to smoke a 5 and see how that goes and just start easing myself out of these panic attacks. I'll tell you how it goes.

Well... probably thats the answer you need. There are two kinds of cannabis, the indica and the sativa.
The indica gives you that mellow, relaxing, couchlock body stone, and the sativa gives you the energetic mind high.
The sativas are the ones which usually causes panic attacks, while the indicas are the ones used to treat panic attacks.
So, im sure you have the panic attacks when smoke some sativa, and start to think about 1,000,000 things, to worry about all of them, starts to become paranoid and such...
Yet, when you smoke some calming indica, its "the best feeling in the world"... and if you get some good indica, why not to smoke it everyday?:stoned::rastasmoke:

    BTW Happy 420! :birthday:
