Physical and drug screen - what are my options?

    Hello Everyone.

After being concerned about my wife's drug test, which she had today and it seemed to go quite well, I found out that I will most likely have to get a drug screen and physical for a job. It will most likely take place this week.

I have learned a lot about dilution and I also have synthetic urine. But my question is woud I be able to sneak in synthetic urine for a drug test that will also be a physical? Does anyone have any experience having both of these done at the same time?

I have been clean for 3 weeks now, am 5'10 and weigh about 175 pounds. I eat fairly healthy and exercise regularly. I have yet to test myself with a home kit to see where I stand. I really would like to get this job and would appreciate any feedback on drug screens and physicals. I have no idea what to expect, such as will it even be a urine test or since it is a physical will it be blood or salvia? Again, any information on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much for all the help everyone.

The physicals are usually very basic.Checking pulse, blood pressure, hernias, eye sight and hearing. They will probably have you take everything but your shorts off. I would put the sub in your pants pocket with a heater. Maybe have a backup heater just in case. If you don't get the opportunity to put your clothes back on before the UA just stall and say you can't pee yet. Complain about getting cold, put your clothes back on and transfer the sub to your shorts.

OK - so here's my situation.

Got a physical and UA coming up on Mon. (4/28/08) - that day will make it 5 week clean. I'm a pretty trim guy, and run several miles, about 4-5 times a week.

I don't really like the idea of subbing in this situation, I don't know what to expect at the physical and am unsure if i'd be able to even get the sub into the bathroom without acting shady. - So i'm ruling this out

OK - go with the dilution right? - Here's my prediciment, blood will also be taken at the physical. The requirements for the blood drawing, states that i am not to eat or drink anything for 12 hours prior to the appointment. I am not to exercise for 5 days prior, and not to ingest any medication (of any kind tylonnel, asprin etc...) for 5 days as well (prescibed drugs are exceptable, although showing the script would be required). This makes the dilution a bit tougher. I figure I can at least drink a bottle of gatoraide (32 oz) in the morning, and have no problems without showing a weird elevation some kind in my blood.

I am also to take stool samples for this physical (pretty thurough, right?), for the stool sample, I am to eat raw veggies and fruits, NO red meat for several days prior to collection. This makes loading up on fats a couple days before the physical a bit tricky too. I can collect anytime (at home) up to 14 days before, though I haven't began a raw food diet yet. Maybe start today, collect tomorrow and the next day (need 3, from 3 diff. movements) then go back to a higher fat diet for the couple days prior. ?

So I have 6 days. I am heading out the door now, to purchase a take home, and see where I am on my own. (might be clean, as I am, it has been 4 weeks - and I wasn't puffing that much for the last several months maybe once a day -vap a small amount)

Does anyone have any insight, to handle the situation if I'm not clean on my own. Asprin, Creatine, 80 oz of fluid etc... might sway my blood sample (Yes?)

Thanks in advance for any insight you may have.

My wife had a UA about a week and a half ago, and thanks to some very informative people and great insight we got on these messages boards, she's setting up her new office now.

Ok, back from the store. The At Home Drug Test came back conclusively negative. I feel pretty good about this. And can't imagine the UA they give me at the hospital will be examined more stringently (am I naive for thinking this?)

    Box says
"99.9% accuracy (as reliable as tests used by doctors and hospitals)"
    "FDA Cleared"

I'm fairly certain I'm in the clear, but you'd just hate to lose a good job over something as silly as a trace amount of herb in your system, until you start working there will always be a slight bit of anxiety.

I'm a bit curious. Why are you allowing this kind of a physical?

Well, It's a good job, pays well, good benefits, challenging and rewarding work, etc...And this physical is protocol for working at the company.

The way I'm seeing it, the thoroughness has a lot more with protecting me and my health, than meticulously scrutinizing my habits and lifestyle. (Some of the paperwork states while the company does not approve the use of drugs, tobacco and alcohol, and residual effects drug, tobacco and/or alcohol use can been seen on the body after the substance has been ingested, what an employee does on his or her own time, is not the companies business.)

The physicals are an annual practice, and the systematicness and thoroughness is a tool that gives the doctors a greater chance of being able to catch any illnesses you may have early. Because of the occasional and potential nature of the work, it is in my and the companies interest to ensure that my health is being monitored. While these concerns don't seem to apply too much to myself the position I'll be holding, the scope of work that is sometimes conducted by this company, does potentially put some of their employees into environments that could be hazardous to ones health (It is a large company, one which conducts business all over the world). So the company is just looking out for their employee health, by making sure they're not becoming ill because of a environment it put them in.

I also think it has a lot to do with the pricing package the company worked out with the insurance provider. I'm sure company wide, the practice of conducting annual physicals of all their employees fetches them a fairer price. Similar to how some insurance companies will subsidize gym membership costs, having healthy customers is in their best interest.

Besides, if I don't have anything to hide, what would be the problem.

Its *not* a bad thing, its to keep a close eye on your health. You must be gonna get a job that could possible expose you to chemical hazards and such.

It may be part of an OMMP (occupational medical monitoring program) to set baselines. They are very thorough so they can catch any problems that might develope due to exposure to chemical or particulate hazards. I went through the same drill.... had exams every 3 months that also included blood work.

Had I paid attention to the elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels, and acted on them at that point, it would have saved me from having to go through a quadruple coronary bypass.
