Help! Fungal Gnats

well at least it is not mites ...................

I am going to go the inch of sand route - does anyone have first hand experience with this??? and can you give me any tips - would like to stay away from sprays or bombs at the moment - day 36 of 12/12 - have yellow sticky tape in place - but I still see the f***ers all over the soil.
