BEIJING (Reuters) - China is preparing an arsenal of rockets and aircraft to protect the Olympics opening ceremony from rain, hoping to disperse clouds before they can drench dignitaries at the roofless "bird's nest" stadium.

Officials believe there is a 47 percent probability of rain during the August 8 opening ceremony and a 6 percent chance of a heavy downpour and will try to drain humidity from clouds before they reach Beijing.

More than 100 staff at 21 stations surrounding the city will have 10 minutes' notice to fire rockets or cannons containing silver iodide at approaching clouds in the hope of making them rain before they reach the stadium. Three aircraft will also be on stand-by to drop catalysts to unleash rain from the clouds.

LOL.....this is really turning into a sideshow. Terrorist threats on athletes and the games....Tibet protesters.....now with the rocket fire on the rain clouds. DAMN.......isn't this even being held during their monsoon season?

Reminds me of an idea one of my friends and I came up with, while getting high. We figured that if there is a "god", then he/she should be eliminated due to incompetence and evil. The only way to do this would be for all the super powers to send their rockets equipped with bombs into outer space and try to blow god up, wherever he or she is.

God would just send them back to fall down on the heads of those who shot them. In effect, your idea would probably lead to a LOT of people meeting God sooner than they were hoping. Incompetence/evil lies on the shoulders of humans, though. God is just a spectator to our own fallibility.

For being a "spectator", watching the children he fathered suffer, punishing the ones who fail to please Him, we should take a shot at "god". Obviously, since this horrific creature is not perfect, he must finite and vulnerable.
