Agents seize 2,075 pounds of pot from ship

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers seized more than 2,000 pounds of marijuana concealed in a container of clay pottery on a ship attempting to enter the Port of Charleston, the agency announced this week.

Mike Balero, spokesman for Customs and Border Protection, said that on March 17, officers discovered anomalies in a container while scanning it with an X-ray device. After further examination, they found 1,440 packages of marijuana that totaled 2,075 pounds and had a street value of about $1.4 million, he said.

The shipment was turned over to Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to a Monday news release from Customs and Border Protection. Through interagency coordination, Immigration and Customs officials arrested five subjects, the release stated.

Once saw a DEA agent on TV complaining that "We only get a tenth of what's out there...for every bust we make, 9 more get through." With that quantity, I am certain that this was not their first run. Tis a pity, they finally got caught! Hopefully they have a good lawyer on retainer. - Granny:hippy:

The human in me wants to be mad and ask WHY are they still doing this??? Making us criminals for a peaceful and loving lifestyle. WHY are people who are terminally ill, trying in their last waking moments to have a little more comfort, being raided and busted at 4am for growing a couple plants.

Then the stoner in me wants to just chill out and relax, as he thinks "the universe will even itself out in the end" and that these people will pay.

But one thing is for sure, SOCIETY IS STUPID AS HELL. I mean.. pot.. a plant, ILLEGAL? In prison.. FOR POT?!?! You can actually lose years of your lives for using a plant for your own personal pleasure. Where is the sense in that. WHERE? FFS, god dam neoconservatives have to ruin it all with their fundamentalist Christian brainwashing and public dislike for anything not stemming from their own, germanic, white culture.

For 2000+ pounds?!? Methinks they'll be needing more than that. They're going to need a priest, the courts will no doubt be trying to bury those responsible.
