Whole lotta problems...

Hey all, new to these boards but they seem pretty informative and i figure somebody may be able to help!

Me and some buddies have recently been planning on making oil if we were able to get our hands on some shake, or even just out of bud for personal use. Imagine our surprise when a friend of ours comes up to us off the street and says he knows somebody selling 3 oz for 150 bucks!

So I figure A) Its gonna be schwag and B) He probably stole it. Not sure if I was right about B, but it's sure as hell schwag.

Anyways, it looked like total crap and i ended up getting it all for 125. Damp as hell. Looks like hell. But perfect for making oil. Only thing is, after we got it back home and looked it over (We bought it out of this guys run down van, didn't really want to stick around too long.. bad area..) and theres a crapload of fertilizer in there. I mean.. I don't really know my stuff about fertilizer, but I've seen miracle grow with those little white pebble sized rocks in it, and it's definitely that. I'm pretty sure its miracle grow or something close to it.

So we dumped it all out on a bag and I started to hand pick through it all. Picked out all the big stuff, but its honestly to the point where you have to comb through every single bud, peek behind every leaf and down to the stem, and pick out grain of sand sized fertilizer in between it all.. I'm worried that first of all it's probably not good at all to smoke this stuff, and secondly that even if we comb through it and pull out all the visible pieces that there will be a ton of residue left over.

My questions, is there a good way to flush this all out? Is it going to be safe to smoke if we get the visible stuff out? And if we make oil out of it, is that going to extract the chemicals of the fertilizer and whatnot out along with the THC? Its a good opportunity to try and make some killer oil, but I am not willing to smoke it or sell it to anybody if it's going to be harmful.

If it's really fertilizer, it'll be water soluble. Gently rinse off your buds and then lay them out to dry before you make your oil.

It's not fertilizer, it's perlite. It's also inert. Don't worry. You can still make hash out of it, or cannabutter- be sure to strain the butter carefully. There's a method in the 'edibles' section for that.
