    newb with lighting questions

I have a 5x5 grow space and i was going to get an enhanced 400 W HPS bulb because i heard it can support veg and flower. I was wondering
    1. Is this bulb a good choice?
    2. how many of these bulbs do i have to order
    3. what hood should i use
    4. do i even have to use a hood can i just put into the ventilation system like so: GROWFAQ fouth pic from top. And how do i do this?
    5. Can one 4" inline duct fan cool a 400 W bulb(s)?
    6. can i use something other than expensive inlines to move air thru the vent system??

Well well, let get on this case...
5x5 is that a cabinet or is it in a room ?
1- A 400w HPS should be more than enough for the space you have.
2- Get 2 just to be sure, if one die on you can change it ASAP.
3- Well the hood depends on the way you want to ventillate down the place...
4- This is actually not really an hood, it's called a cool tube and usually they are 6" so the 4" inline may not be a good idea
5- As I told you before... But there is a solution, not too expensive, 120mm computer fans can be used for the ventillation system. (there some info on the forum)
6- Usually you don't need an active intake for a cabinet... The exhaust will get the air in.

There a lot of these questions answer on this forum, search a little and you should have must of the answers you need... If you can't find it, we are going to help ya for sure !

ok ok i was thinking instead of a comp. fan i could use this Discount Hydroponics - Inline Duct Fan though i dont think it would be powerful enoough for the cool tube but i could get the 6in and attach it to Discount Hydroponics - LumeCool Reflector. As for lighting do you think Discount Hydroponics - Sunmaster Warm MH Bulbs would be good for both stages of growth or should i stick with the Enhanced HPS??

on second thought maybe i could get 2 6in fans Discount Hydroponics - Inline Duct Fan in order to cool this kit 400W Gro Pro Switchable MH/HPS Plant Grow Light Cool Breeze Reflector unless i could build the duct setup myself but i am not that good with kind o' stuff

Well the web site don't give out the cfm for this fan, so it's not possible to know if you really need one or two... But for the space you are using to grow, one should maybe ok if you don't use too much duct.

The web site claim that the bulb is good for the veg and flower... I guess it's possible but it's always better to change from one to another as the ballast have the option !

Get the ballast and the light, lightproof the cabinet, make holes for intake/exhast, install 1 inline duct fan and try the setup to see the temps, if it's too high get yourself another light.

You might also want to buy a carbon filter, the plant will get smelly as they flower.

you would do better with a 1000-watter for that 5'x5' area ... your 400-watt lamp is best for a 3'x3' or a 2'x4' area ... also, I have used 400-watt EYE Hortilux lamps $$$, and I now use cheapo lamps that only cost about $10 apiece ... I have observed NO difference between the lamps regarding plant growth, bud density, or lamp life ... I buy my lamps here: Light bulbs, Rope Lights, Halogen and Fluorescent bulb - 1000-Bulbs - The Light Bulb Superstore ... I have always had good service from this Texas company, with quick replacements when I had a couple arrive broken ...

Like reaper says for a 5x5 area you need a 1000 watter or two 600 units. Moving the light closer to the plants won't help the plants on the perimeter of the garden, it just won't cover that area well. If you want to get the lights close get the 2 x 600w lights, they'll enable you to get them closer while still covering the whole garden.

    Good luck!
