Hey everyone. Just thought I would ask for your opinions on my setup. I tried to grow some plants earlier, and I started with, like, no budget, and very limited knowledge, so I had my light too high causing stretching. I went to replant them and the replanting went fine, but I left the new pots out unsupervised for 2 minutes and our cat ATE ALL THE SEEDLINGS. T.T but I am currently germinating more to plant. I have a 2 and 1/2 by 2 and 1/2 foot area I am growing in. My lights are one 35W florescent bulb and one 20W grow florescent bulb. adding up to about 150-200W worth of light output. My entire area is lined with tin foil and I have a great mixture for the soil. My question (finally) is do you think that my plant will grow well in that environment. I'm not necessarily looking for amazing buds and a huge yield, just decent buds with a good amount of yield for my first time growing. Oh, and I also have a dual window fan in the area for air circulation.
Sorry for the huge amount of text, and thanks in advance for any help. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I'll be here pretty frequently.
OH! and I am planning on growing about 9 or so plant in three large pots.
Keep that green growing! :rastasmoke:bloodredsoul Reviewed by bloodredsoul on . Need opinions. Hey everyone. Just thought I would ask for your opinions on my setup. One plant per pot, and lost the tinfoil in favor of mylar emergency blankets (walmart camping section) or flat white paint or white posterboard.
9 unsexed plants in 9 pots of about a quart each will become about 4 females after sexing, and then you can pot them up into 2-3 gallon pots for flowering.

Everything sounded fine so far, except this. Only one plant per pot, or you'll have problems with the roots competing for space. Secondly, you're going to need a lot more light if you plan on growing nine plants under CFLs. Do a sweep through the Indoor Lighting section and read up on what other growers have used in exclusively fluorescent grows; lumens, color temp, and so on.

Thanks for the advice. Didn't know about the whole one plant per pot thing. Definitely will do. I was kinda thinking that I didn't have enough light. Before I plant I will for sure get at least 2-4 more lights. ( I would buy higher wattage or some HPS or MH lights, but I am in such a small town you can't find them.) I'll also look for the alternatives to tin foil. So thanks so much to both of you.

look at hydro shops online or ebay for mh and hps lights. I got mine off craigslist. I paid $100 for my mh switchable to hps lights. They have been working well with no problems since they are used.

35+20=55w not 150-200w I think your using the incandescent equivilant figures to arrive at your 150-200w figure. Your actual light output is 55w. It's an area that causes a lot of confusion, especially when you look at how many watts you need for a grow as the general rule is 50w per sq ft. (but this is for HID lights, i'd say more like 80watts per sq ft for fluro's and cfls. Stick to the actual wattage of the bulb not the equivilant wattage. So for your 2.5x2.5 area = 6.25 sq feet. You need 6.25 x 80w = 500 actual watts, which is roughly 10 of your 20 w fluro's and 10 of your 35 w fluro's = 550watts. Thats a lot of lights to get in there and to wire up, it would be more economical to get a 250w HID which will give a bigger yield and better buds. Or if you want to keep to fluros and cfl's cut your grow area down to 2ftx1ft and you'll be good with about 150w's of fluro's or cfls.
