2ftx2ft White Widow grow
Ok so I thought i'd start a log for my grow. I've done a couple of grows in the past, one with cfl's which produced some nice smoke but not very much, and a couple of hps grows, one went pretty well but the other suffered because of high summer temps.
Right so onto my current grow............
About 5-7 days ago I germinated 5 white widow seeds using the paper towel method, I know some people don't like this method but it's always worked well for me. I fold a piece of kitchen paper in half twice, place it on a small plate add a little water and place my seeds on top, then I get another piece of kitchen paper fold that the same, place it over the seeds, add a touch more water and put another plate on top. (be sure the plates you use have a bit of a lip on the bottom of them so they don't crush your seeds, hope that makes sense) Then I put them on a shelf above my boiler, it's not hot, just warm. I add a few drops of water once or twice a day to keep them moist.
After a couple of days two of the seeds have cracked open and the taproot has emerged. I get my small pots (around 3"x3" i guess) fill them nearly to the top with soil (I'm using bio bizz all-mix) make a little hole in the soil with my little finger and carefully place the seed in, making sure it's the right way around and gently push the soil around it so it stays upright before I put some soil on top of it. They then get very gently watered, not much at all, just enough to moisten the top layer at first, I don't wanna disturb that seed. I leave the pots on the shelf above the boiler to keep warm until they pop their heads out of the soil. By the end of the day the other 3 seeds have cracked and they join their friends in pots above the boiler.
Another day or two later and all of them have popped their heads out, seeds still covering their first set of leaves. If the seed is wide open I gently try to help it off the leaves, if it's being stubborn I leave it till it's looser. Now it's time to put them under some light! Right i've got a mini homemade tent about 2ftx1ft with a 125watt envirolite (flowering spectrum) but it will have to do for vegging for now, I've got other things I need to get like a proper tent and hopefully a 250 watt hps light for flowering.
So now we're upto today, the 5 WW babies have been under the 125 watt light for a day and all seems ok. I've got the light 2-3 inches from the plants and have got a small fan to circulate the air and help strengthen the stems. Temps are currently at 78F (or 26C) and that's without any extraction, i've got a small extraction fan that I can add when it's needed.
Oh and i've just ordered a proper tent
Only small 2ftx2ftx4.5ft high but i think it will be just right for what I want. Next on the list of things to buy is the hps and a decent extraction fan.
Any questions or advice?hudson88 Reviewed by hudson88 on . 2ftx2ft White Widow grow Ok so I thought i'd start a log for my grow. sounds good so far, your space is about half the size of what my tent is(5x5) which I built out of pvc pipe and black plastic. It was a lot cheaper than a pre-made tent and it requires a little bit of improvisation with mounting air circulation and stuff but has worked out nearly as good and much cheaper. If a pre-built assembly is what you want then it should be sufficient.
When those plants get old enough to start feeding nutes, you are gonna want to start LST to create an even canopy of bud sites. It's simple and a really effective way for growing indoors under artificial light. Basically by forcing the main stem to grow horizontally the secondary growth grow upright toward the light producing a top cola bud site. With that small of a room a Scrog grow would also be perfect which utilizes the LST method to precisely train your tops to be evenly spaced and a uniform canopy.
Either way, you should probably use one of these methods to efficiently use your light and increase yield.

Hey kindblunt thanks for the advice. I've got a 2x1ft tent that I built myself for a cfl grow but wanted something a bit bigger this time. I thought about making one myself but found a premade purpose built grow tent for £60 or about $100 so I thought i'd save myself the hassle of building one. My DIY skills probably ain't as good as yours lol
I was gonna have a go at LST to get the biggest yield i can but before I decide on it I wanna have a look into scrogging. To be honest i'm not sure exactly what it is and need to do some reading on the subject.
When do you start feeding your plants nutes? I was thinking of starting around 2 weeks. That sound about right?[SIZE=\"1\"]My 250w White Widow Grow

Hope you will be providing us pics, Hudson. I too, am looking into LST vs. scrogg. As far as I can tell scrogg is lst with a schematic. I realize you have forgot more than I know on the subject. Perhaps we can work through it together.
Using your on order 2'x2'x4.5' tent you have 576 sq inches of possible canopy space. Allowing 4"x4" for each cola you would be able to get main cola's shooting to your light with strings set every 4 inches across and length wise. With the goal being to train offshoots through these strings. Sounds simple, but I bet it isn't.
I assume the strings will need to be height adjustable.
Is this how you understand it?
Good luck, I will be following your progress closely. I really appreciate the advice you have been giving me. :thumbsup:Laws made in DC should stay in DC

Hey Cede, thanks for the comments and advice. I've decided to go with lst and give scrog a miss for this grow, i'm growing from seed and don't know the sex of my plants so i figure it would be a real pain in the ass tryna take out the males after they've a grown through the screen. As far as I know the screen is fixed, you don't need to worry about moving it up or down, when the plant grows through the screen just push them back under untill you're ready to flower then start trying to fill the empty parts of the screen training the plant to go where you want it to, then just let the plant grow through the screen so above it you've just got lots of buds.
I've had a pretty busy week tryna sort all the stuff for my grow. Got my tent a couple of days ago, it's a bit of a tight fit height wise for the area I want to put it, i'm thinking i'll have to cut a couple inches off the poles of the tent so that the fan will have a bit of room to sit on top of the tent but i'lll have to wait for my fan to arrive to be sure, that should be in the next week I hope. I've got a 250w hps cooltube setup coming with the fan too, I can't wait
Spent hours going round hardware places yesterday looking for eye bolts to suspend the light but nowhere had them small enough for my reflector, so i've had to improvise and get some metal rope and sort of a little lock that holds it in place, the guy said it would hold 10lbs easy, it better had lol And today i've just been and got some All Mix, some new pots and a 125 watt blue spectrum envirolite. I'll take some pics of my week old seedlings later if I get chance.[SIZE=\"1\"]My 250w White Widow Grow

Ok here's a pic of my one week old WW seedlings, they've been under a flowering spectrum enviro (there's a bit of stretch going on) upto today but I've just put in the blue veg spec bulb today, hopefully that'll keep them more compact. The pics not the best but my batteries went on the cam and I'm gonna have a smoke an chill. Anyway all seedlings look pretty much the same so who cares, i'll get some batteries by floweing time I promise lol
