NORML Money Bomb
I've been discussing with a few people the possibility of a grassroots 'NORML Money Bomb' fundraiser. Going along the same lines as the Ron Paul money bomb in which activists raised some $4 million, we would design a website for the event which would explain details about the event and a link to the NORML donation page. All donations would be done through NORML's site. We could perhaps negotiate with NORML to get the money raised funded into an NORML sponsored event, lobbying for the upcoming "Make room for serious criminals" bill, or another ad campaign similar to this one, which made national headlines:
You Bet Video - NORML
The event would more than likely take place one week after the May 3rd Global Marijuana March campaign. What are your thoughts on this?Diffusion Reviewed by Diffusion on . I'd say the same effort could be used much more efficiently by organizing mass protests and educating the general public. I can't imagine moneybombs being very popular, but nothing wrong with trying. I still think it's a bit of a waste.

Though I agree with you in principle, in my honest opinion I don't think mass protests do a whole lot to educate the general public. I remember passing a large animal rights protest in the city once with my family. My family just looked at them and said "Look at all these crazies" before leaving and forgetting about them. I think something that might be effective would be to use the money raised to print out thousands, maybe hundreds of thousands of brochures that people could hand out at the next cannabis protest. The brochures would contain information about marijuana's minimal health effects, prohibitions effect on the economy, things of that nature.

I couldn't agree more, but I think that's mostly because the protests are generally very unorganized, but even an organized protest isn't going to be nearly as effective as getting out reading materials. Perhaps something similar to the RonPaulDVD bomb, I think that's what it was called. Basically, they took people's money and used it to send DVDs with stuff all about Ron Paul to voters in certain states. I always thought that was a great idea, but it never got the popularity it needed to be effective.
