Metal Halide Question - Help please :)

    Hi guys,
Iv just gotten a 150w MH and the bulb it came with was a ES Coated 4000k MH. The bulb was quite expensive but i wanted to know if it was correct spectrum for vegging ?

I also got a Phillips 70w HPS SON lamp that fits in the same lamp. Im not sure of the spectrum or lumens but would like to know if this could be used for veg or better left for flower ?

    Thanks guys

It's neither good nor harmful to your plants.

You can grow under pretty much any color temperature you want. But ideally you want to veg with 5500k - 6500K color bulbs and flower with 2700K-3500K color bulbs.

You're kind of in the middle. It's not ideal for this phase of growth but it's not going to harm your plants at all, they'll still grow just fine.

definitely better than CFLS. CFL's don't penetrate nearly as well and don't put out the lumens that HID can. You're square

my metal-halide 'vegging' lamps are 2100K, my HPS 'flower' lamps are 4000K ... I have used my HPS for complete grows, seed thru harvest ... although warned of stretching with the sodium lamps, I experienced none ... plants grew normally :smokin:

I am using a 2100K lamp now for flower and loving it. I have 2.5ft colas filled with buds the entire length with zero/very little stem showing. It's awesome

one things for sure, make sure your ballast is ok running different wattage bulbs, their not to happy when they've been made to light 150w and you change to 80w(also a ballast made for mh will find it hard to run a hps(some dont work at all)).you also want the higher wattage bulb to be the hps(mh for veg,hps for flower.(you can get away with cfls in veg).more light in flowering stage=more buds).good luck!
