Young Plants are greying!

I typically don't water my plants until the soil starts seperating on top, that's what I was told to look for. My tap water (well not city) is right at PH 7 so I'm good on that front.

I find that watering by the weight of the pot is a more accurate measurement.

I use a combination of the RH%, Weight of Pot, and finger test.

I've never bothered looking for soil seperating on the top. I take it you mean waiting until the soil gets very dry and breaks apart into dust?

If so then you really don't want to be waiting that long until you water.
