composted manure

Hey all, to anyone who uses this, it's 05-05-05. So how to handle the nutes? would one use more with this stuff as opposed to lets say, foxfarm ocean forrest? Or maybe not necessarily more but just sooner? I'm just not sure how rich this shit is lol :jointsmile:

The only things to remember when using a composted manure with nice low numbers like that are:
-It holds a lot of water. Plenty of perlite is necessary to help this. Try mixing 25% perlite in a hot, dry grow room, up to 40% perlite if your conditions are colder or more humid. You can match lightness to transpiration rates so that your watering schedule stays pretty even.
-It's not appropriate for very young plants or clones that have JUST rooted. Use a 'seedling starting mix' for those, or even ProMix BX, in very small containers, because you WANT to have to transplant within only a couple weeks.

It's not super duper rich, the way a chemically-ferted soil is, but it's rich in other, better ways- like the organic acids that plants LOVE. You will want to start off with a lower fert dose as with any pre-fertilized soil, and work up. But with all that perlite you have added, all you need to do is make sure that every once in a while you give a nice heavy watering with plain water and let some run out the bottom, carrying any undesirable leftovers with it. Just like any other medium.

Ahh right on thanks Stinky, yeah I'm going with your idea this time and see how this pans out with poop hehe. And going up to a 5 gal grow bag in the end before flower, so diff soil, bigger final container etc. But wasn't sure if nutes would be different.
