"Plans for Al Gore to take the Democratic presidential nomination as the saviour of a bitterly divided party are being actively discussed by senior figures and aides to the former vice-president,? the Telegraph reports. ??The bloody civil war between Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama has left many Democrats convinced that neither can deliver a knockout blow to the other and that both have been so damaged that they risk losing November??s election to the Republican nominee, John McCain.?

OK - there might be something to that but there??s one minor problem: Gore hasn??t run in any primaries. If you nominate him, lots of voters will feel disenfranchised.

And there are more problems, of course: Gore ran in 2000 as VP of one of America??s most popular presidents. Yet he lost. If he lost in 2000 how is he expected to win this time around, in 2008?

He??s still the same person, the person who lost the elections in 2000. Remember the ??I invented the Internet? thing? He was called arrogant; well, his arrogance hasn??t disappeared. In fact, he??s probably more arrogant now that he has won the Nobel Peace Prize (for doing something that hasn??t got anything to do with Peace).

??I invented the Internet and I won the Nobel Peace Prize (which I also may have invented); elect me president!?

Yeah, that??ll work.

One gets the impression that Democrats are panicking. That??s the real problem right now: if they would all just stay calm, it would all be fine. But the more they panic, the more amateurish the party seems, and the more likely it is that McCain wins in November, regardless of whom wins the Democratic nomination."

etc....
