    Goin to Amsterdam, any suggestions?

I am going to the Dam for the a few days with my girlfriend on March 21st and 22nd. I was wondering if anyone could shed some insight as to which hotels are best for the money, close to the coffee shops, etc. I would also like to know some of the coffee shops you guys an gals went to on your trips and which you found to have the best bud, best prices, and best environment for chilling. Any tips help! BTW, anyone know if the "Gray Area" is a good one, or is it just a tourist trap? THANKS!

You do not need to leave your room. Remain sitting at your table and listen. Do not even listen, simply wait, be quiet still and solitary. The world will freely offer itself to you to be unmasked, it has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet. - Franz Kafka.

well you can actually find the cheapest hotels within the dam itself, many have vacancies on the day and very good value for money too.A s for coffeeshops 'paradise' is very good as is 'abra cadabra'.But you'll find many good ones to the say the least :-). also take time out to take a boat trip along the canals they give you a great view and tour of the dam and very relaxing.YOU CERTAINLY WONT GET BORED THATS FOR SURE........

Without an exception, "Amnesia", not far from Seedsdirect on the Singel cannal and street, if Serge is still running the joint say hi for "stuart from Ozz", drop in and have a coffee and cone or two, best prices and selection, as far as I am conserned, I stayed in holland for 5 months and loved the life style.

remember technically it is illegal, they just have a "blind eye policy" don't smoke outside, and have respect ask before you light up. Many shops won't let you smoke unless you bought it there
