WASHINGTON - White House hopeful Barack Obama suggests he would have left his Chicago church had his longtime pastor, whose fiery anti-American comments about U.S. foreign policy and race relations threatened Obama's campaign, not stepped down.

"Had the reverend not retired, and had he not acknowledged that what he had said had deeply offended people and were inappropriate and mischaracterized what I believe is the greatness of this country, for all its flaws, then I wouldn't have felt comfortable staying at the church," Obama said Thursday during a taping of the ABC talk show, "The View." The interview will be broadcast Friday.

In his sermons over the years, the Rev. Jeremiah Wright has railed against the United States and accused it of bringing on the Sept. 11 attacks by spreading terrorism. He also has said the government invented AIDS to destroy "people of color" and has shouted "God damn America" for its treatment of minorities.

Videos of his remarks circulated on the Internet and on television.

In an attempt to quiet the controversy, Obama gave a speech last week in which he sharply condemned Wright's remarks but did not repudiate him.

Obama said Wednesday he has spoken with Wright, who retired from Trinity United Church of Christ last month but remains as a senior pastor.

This kinda reminds me of good ol' Bill "I didn't inhale" Clinton.
Yes, I went to the church, but no I did not inhale the sermon.
Not even close to being credible, feasable, or justifiable. A liar is a liar. Where were his morals when sitting in the pews with the children of his community? ...or with his children? What did he do to protect them from this biggot? He put more money in the tithe envelope.
Detractors say..."but we don't know the pastor talked like that all the time, how do you know Obama heard any of that in the pews..."?
Give me a break. I've seen Wright in print, (The Trumpet mag) in video's of his sermons, in interviews...He has never changed his stripes, or his message, for any media. He's a biggot, and proudly soputs his biggotry.

And yet he threw his rev. under the bus. Relegeting his reverands views of America and whites, to crazy uncle status, making Wright and his views effectively irrelevant in his teachings. Yeah right.

As of 2 minutes ago, the website still lists Wright as the senior pastor. They've altered their website on more than one occation, taking off links to it's controversial 'The Trumpet' magazine, which has included it's racist anti-american rhetoric, (such as the interview with Louis Farrakhan after Wright gave him the lifetime achievement award) If their testimonials are so godlike, then why the church's subtrufuge? And if the rev. isn't the pastor any more, why is he still named as the senior pastor?

In my opinion, this church is either:
A) a cult
B) a black liberation organization that needs to have it's tax-free status revoked, and the 'church' should consider it's biggest supporter (B. Hussein Obama) to blame for throwing back the covers of this organization.

In Senator Obama's first book, titled Dreams of My Father and published in 1995 (after he had been elected president of the Harvard Law Review but before he had been elected to public office), Senator Obama wrote at length about Rev. Wright and his moving "Audacity of Hope" speech.

In Dreams, Senator Obama explained how he met Rev. Wright, whom he mentioned had been "dabbling with liquor, Islam, and black nationalism in the sixties."

He acknowledged that Rev. Wright immediately had given him fair warning that he was controversial, by quoting Rev. Wright as having said: "Some of my fellow clergy don't appreciate what we're about. They feel like we're too radical. Others, we aren't radical enough. Too emotional. Not emotional enough."

He also acknowledged that Rev. Wright let him know at their first meeting that he looked unfavorably on America and expected to continue to do so, by stating, "Life's not safe for a black man in this country, Barack. Never has been. Probably never will be."

Senator Obama left with one of Rev. Wright's "Black Value System" brochures.

When Senator Barack listened to Rev. Wright's "Audacity of Hope" sermon, September 11, 2001 was years away, but, Senator Obama admitted in Dreams, Rev. Wright castigated America.

Senator Obama put it this way: "Reverend Wright spoke of Sharpsville and Hiroshima, the callousness of policy makers in the White House and in the State House. As the sermon unfolded...the stories of strife became more prosaic, the pain more immediate...."

So it's hard to believe that Senator Obama was not familiar until very recently with Rev. Wright's position on the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

It's even worse for Senator Obama and Rev. Wright.



I'll never vote for Obama. (nor would I ever vote for that nut-job Paul)
