canope or not?

I just got my 400w hps int he mail, My grow is only in a small 2x3 closet. I realised after buying the light that its may more then needed, although I can use it in the future. The question is the canope doesn't really fit so i can mod it by shortening it or i could do without it. The walls are flat white paint with an 8" fan.

In a 2x3 closet you need an air-cooled hood or cooltube to run a HID light, especially one that size. By 'canope' I assume you are talking about the reflector? You need a reflector, and if it's a batwing you can probably cut it down to fit, but anything else isn't practical to modify like that.

Ya it is the Batwing, I don't have an air cool for my light. I'm thinking of adding in a nice vertical ventilation to the attic. so i take it cutting it would deffinatly be better then just putting it in on an angle.

Cutting is much better than angling.
Venting with an exhaust in the top of the space right into the attic, with a good extractor, and an intake at floor level, might in fact work out for you.
