'Make Room for Serious Criminals' bill."
I was watching Real Time with Bill Maher the other evening when Representative Barney Frank stated he would propose a bill for the legalization of marijuana.

After seeing this I got on the Net to look for more information on this. I stumbled onto some information on a similar bill from 2005. This bill was to Legalize Medical Marijuana on the Federal level. I live in Washington where on the state level Medical Marijuana is legal. To me it seems a given that our state representatives would go with the will of the people and endorse this bill. Yet it seems that only 3 of the 9 Reps. from Washington voted for this bill.
To help insure this is not the case on this bill, I am emailing the Reps from Washington and asking them for their opinion on this bill and also asking them to endorse it, as the people of Washington did on the state level.
I would encourage all of you to do the same, if you would like to see the legalization on the federal level.
Here is a link to help you contact your Rep., just click your state and it will give you the contact information.

Roll Call Number 255 (I can't believe I remember these roll call numbers . . .)
The following summer there was another attempt at this same amendment, Roll Call Number 333. They both went down in flames but the interesting thing to me is look at how many of the Noes were weeded out of the house. I haven't crunched the numbers yet but I wonder how the votes would add up sans all the loser from the '06 election.
I don't know if there was a similar vote in 2007 or there will be one this summer, but this one, or Mr. Frank's amendment would be great if it passed. You gotta love Barney, he goes to bat for us every single year, hasn't scored a run yet but he is always ready to play ball.
