Hopefully you will get a better answer...

My experience has been exclusively outdoors and am here learning about indoor. I use good old sunlight. My only method of "light control" is bucket placement. My plants are in buckets and I move them. I haven't had to germ a seed in a few years, but it is fairly easily done. No little to no light is needed to get your root system started in something small like a papercup. My experience differs from everything I have read here, but... I then move to a a bucket/pail/what ever you like. I use things with handles on them. Poke holes all over the sides and place them where the will get the most available sunlight. You also will want to consider watering convenience with your placement. You then can wait on nature to do its thing and the earth's axis to tilt, or move your plants to a location that receives less direct sunlight. This can be the edge of a tree line, next to a wall, you get the point. The most important thing about outdoors is unwanted attention. This includes pest of many, many varieties (insects, animals, neighbors) for the odor will attract curiosity.

Hope this helps, I found this site about 5 hours ago and have been reading everything and felt this was my opportunity to contribute.
You will never be able to produce like you are reading about here. I have been totally amazed with the seed to smoke time intervals quoted here. I have been living in the dark ages.

    Good luck!
