    Powdery Mildew/ MOLD!!

Just wondering if vaporizing, the above ,has the same effects as smoking it.... i.e., releasing spores in your lungs, possibly causing pneumonia etc...
I realize dealing with any kind of mold is a health hazard to anyone, but i was need to know if i vaporized in my volcano if it has the same effect or worse ( less ) than smoking it... input appreciated..
    thank you

Um....why are you smoking moldy weed?

I believe that heat destroys mold spores. But not 100% sure.

You know what Pam, that's a legitimate question. And no, 'heat' does NOT destroy mold spores. There is a specific temperature required for proper sterilization of infected material. You have to ensure that temperature is attained and held for enough time to thoroughly destroy pathogens. With mold, that's not your only concern. There are also toxins produced by the mold. In the process of normal smoking, you are drawing air across the plant material even before putting flame to it, and spores may become airborne. In a vaporizer, on one hand the plant material is pre-heated, but on the other hand, the temperature is relatively low.
Please try not to add to confusion by answering Qs without being sure of the answer.
If you have any quantity of moldy bud, IMO the safest way to process it would be into a solvent-extracted (isopropanol or butane) hash or oil product. Personally, I would not smoke or eat it in any other form, including bubble hash, although many people DO add moldy bud to their scrap bag for bubble.

I'm moving this to the vaporizer lounge for more discussion.

"Temperatures well above 100 F will kill mold and mold spores, but the exact temperature required to kill specific species is not well established."

Frequently Asked Questions About Mold - links to EPA and CDC here also.

You would think vaping temps of 350-400F would certainly be "well above 100 F", but as stinkyattic said, you're drawing air through the moldly herb before it all reaches that temp range. I say better safe than sorry.

    Powdery Mildew/ MOLD!!

Thanks for the info, and im not smoking moldy weed, just a legitimate question about my health as far as im concerned. The area i am in due to the climate is a haven in peoples garages for powder mildew, i cant inspect every single thing going into my lungs ie. other peoples weed, so i was just wondering if there was any alternative to improve the quality of smoke entering my lungs. Thank you again stinkyattic, your posts are extremely informative
