Eight day old seedling (picture)
Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum and this is also my first grow.
This is an NLxC99 strain growing in Pro-Mix Ultimate Organic mix under two T5 lights, which are about an inch away from the leaves. It's the largest of three that I planted about 9 days ago. The other two are about half an inch shorter than this one and with slightly smaller leaves. The stems appear to be red on all three plants and they haven't been growing much the last couple days.
I've been watering about once every three days, although I do give the surface a spray with plain water if it's looking too dry. Today I tried watering the smallest one with 1/4 strength Botanicare Power Plant just to see what would happen. No noticeable changes yet.
I was just wondering if the stem colour looks alright as well as the amount of leaves at this stage. Any other comments are appreciated. Thanks.nblksa Reviewed by nblksa on . This is normal for a seedling to have a red or purple stem.
Do not feed your seedlings any nutes at this stage. They are very sensitive at this point in their life and nute burning them early on can cause severe stress or kill them.

Daihashi is right. No nutes necessary, but since you gave them 1/4 strength they'll be fine.

My vote is, that it looks like the poor thing is awfully dry. No moisture visible at all. Something that small will likely need some water on a daily basis. Let soil dry (a bit) between waterings, but prolonged soil dehydration will kill it.

I just wanted to do a follow-up post for the first time growers out there:
It's three months later and two out of three turned out to be female. They're in week seven of flowering now and I'm starting to see some amber trichomes. For flowering I got a 150W HPS and I kept using the four 39W T5s(6400K) as well as four 40W soft white CFLs. I've been using Botanicare Pro Bloom for Soil, Liquid Karma, and blackstrap molasses.
I just wanted to write this for any first timers like me who worry about their plants not growing that fast or that big at first. They'll catch up. You can grow nice plants with a modest, half-assed, improvised-on-the-fly setup like mine! Recently I had to stake them up because the buds were getting too heavy.
So, in conclusion, don't worry too much. Just do your best, give it time, and have fun. Oh, and watch your pH.
Thanks for reading.
