Who is your favorite Female Singer?

mine's between Grace Slick and Janis Joplin...both very powerful in their own unique ways, and I love me some psych music.

Another notable female singer (though underrated) during this period is Nansi Nivens, frontwoman for the short-lived band Sweetwater. Sweetwater's debut album, with its singles Motherless Child and In A Rainbow, hit the Billboard Top-Ten in 1968; and when the band became the second act on the bill at Woodstock a year later, their future indeed looked bright.

Unfortunately, Sweetwaters' career was cut short by tragedy when Nansi was involved in a head-on collision with a drunk driver in Dec 1969, suffering severe head injuries which resulted in the permanent loss of the right side of her voice. Yet with her enduring vocals featured on the bands first album, Nansi Nivens certainly deserves a place alongside the female vocal greats of the psychedelic era.
