    Obamas Grandmother "Typical White Person"

In Philadelphia this morning, Barack Obama confronted the remains of the Jeremiah Wright brushfire, the smoldering embers of this anecdote of his grandmother using racial stereotypes that made him cringe... and promptly spilled gasoline on those embers.

610 WIP host Angelo Cataldi asked Obama about his Tuesday morning speech on race at the National Constitution Center in which he referenced his own white grandmother and her prejudice. Obama told Cataldi that "The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is a typical white person. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know (pause) there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way."

The grandmother reference from the speech, as you'll recall:

I can no more disown him than I can disown the black community. I can no more disown him than I can my white grandmother â?? a woman who helped raise me, a woman who sacrificed again and again for me, a woman who loves me as much as she loves anything in this world, but a woman who once confessed her fear of black men who passed by her on the street, and who on more than one occasion has uttered racial or ethnic stereotypes that made me cringe.

Hey Obama!:S4: Kiss my "typical white" ass! And this ASSCLOWN wants to be the uniter of the country? THE PRESIDENT?? :wtf:

Lets say Clinton or McCain took their CHILDREN to a church where the preacher talked hate against the blacks then either one made a remark like "typical black person". Completely different story right? Why?

Racist? Who REALLY knows except for his wife. Idiot? For attending that church for 20 years and taking his children there....DEFINATELY!

Typical black guy, talking about typical white folks that way. Freakin' typical!

It was an unfortunate word he used, "typical," but if you read the quote, he was referring to his earlier comment about his grandmother, and he was saying that she doesn't hate blacks, but like a lot of white people, she has a reaction to them on the street that comes out the wrong way. Don't you think that is true? In my experience, a lot of white people who aren't necessarily racist still react funny when they meet blacks on the street.

I always hate it when black people jump on your exact wording when you are trying to make a point about race. How many times have you seen some poor white politician trying to make an honest effort to say something reasonable about race to a room of black people and make the mistake of saying something like, "You people."

"You people? YOU PEOPLE! How DARE you refer to us as 'YOU PEOPLE!'"

Now you guys are doing the same exact thing with Obama. Can't anyone get past this oversensitivity? This is why no one seems to be able to have a rational discussion about race. Here, I'll "sanitize" the quote for you so that it means the exact same thing but doesn't contain the offensive term "typical" that seems to have hurt your tender, delicate feelings so badly, "The point I was making was not that my grandmother harbors any racial animosity, but that she is like a lot of white people. If she sees somebody on the street that she doesn't know (pause) there's a reaction in her that doesn't go away and it comes out in the wrong way." There. Can you deal with that? It's an absolutely 100% true statement --- a lot of white poeple react to blacks in a way that comes off wrong, even if it doesn't come from racial animosity. Try to use your brain to think about what a person is saying.

When a person, or even a friend, states something like "typical" black, white, hispanic, or asian person it's pretty evident that they have some deep rooted prejudace OR animosity. This assclown took his CHILDREN to a church where he KNEW that the preacher made anti-white statements. "The U.S. of KKK A.; the U.S. government infected black people with HIV". And now grandma is a "typical white person".....he's no better than David Duke!

I think its just a phaze the country is going through. We now have reverse rascism. Where all whites are portrayed as rascists no matter what we say. Words are not the issue, behaviour is the issue. I'm guilty of using all the slang words for minorities but I try to treat everyone fairly when I first meet them.

Psyco4bud, you are blowing this waaaaay oout of context. Back in the day she was a typical white person. The majority of white people didnt trust/like blacks so it is fairly easy to see why he said it.
And I bet you money the preacher of almost all the previous presidents weve had have had many predudices against blacks yet the presidents would continue to visit that church with their children.
