The appearance of male sex parts on a plant that is just showing sex for the first time is a fairly relaxed process and you will have plenty of time to make a positive ID on them before killing the plant to prevent pollination.
They open after the little cluster of balls shows that it is on STALKS, then when they flop over on the stalks- when they flop, they will be open in less than a day. So watch out for the flop!

On a mature plant, pick hermaphrodite male parts off as soon as they appear. They will look different than the male flower clusters on a male plant- you won't be able to see the stalk, as it's buried deep in the bud, but you WILL see a little banana lookin thing about 5 mm long.
