Pollen Release ???
Approximately how long from the appearance of male sacks on the plants until they release?
I am going to be out of town for four days and am worried that they can pop up and release while I'm away (I'll be 14 days into 12/12) or do i have plenty of time if I get rid of them immediately when I get back.
Thanks for any help.Mr. GreenJeans 800 Reviewed by Mr. GreenJeans 800 on . Pollen Release ??? Approximately how long from the appearance of male sacks on the plants until they release? Pollen Release ???
from the appearance to the opening of a sack can be 2-5 days.
unless you want seedy bud, kill off the males as they are pretty useless.

They open after the little cluster of balls shows that it is on STALKS, then when they flop over on the stalks- when they flop, they will be open in less than a day. So watch out for the flop!
On a mature plant, pick hermaphrodite male parts off as soon as they appear. They will look different than the male flower clusters on a male plant- you won't be able to see the stalk, as it's buried deep in the bud, but you WILL see a little banana lookin thing about 5 mm long.

Thanks stinky -I can relax a bit now. I would just hate to go on a business trip and come back and find open sacks.

Pollen Release ???
If you have ANY suspected males or hermies in your garden, you really should be there to check on them every day, since the speed at which they go from initial appearance to DANGER! DANGER! depends on a few things, including temps and plant vigor, so it's impossible to say EXACTLY when your danger window begins. Can you isolate them from your confirmed females while you are out of town? Are we talking about the plant you posted in the other thread? If it's the plant I'm thinking of, I see some of the clusters definitely showing the beginning of flop, and you should expect open male flowers within a couple days!

Take your trip you should be OK for 3 or 4 days if the balls are not extended from the plant.

Pollen Release ???
Ummm, here's an idea...why not get rid of the males before you go away? I mean you're going to toss them anyway, eh? So why take the chance?
