    Is this copper? Help!

There is no possible way you can melt metal with a lighter within normal use (as in our use of such metals). paper and wood (and bud) begins to burn at 451 degrees F while tin and copper, the metals used to make brass need a constant flame of a minimum of 1800 degrees F.

The heat of a normal lighter is enough to make copper release a toxic gas.

Why doesn't the heat from a gas stove make copper pots release the gas?
