Well first of all, metal pipes are shit, wood is better.

Secondly, I think the issue here is that that copper is a very soft metal (compared to the alloy brass or steel) and probably burns/vapes off into harmful airborne particles which aren't good for your lungs. I'm assuming that it's bad to inhale metal in any form. Copper is also poisonous in sufficient quantities, same as lead, and can be fatal.
