I always thought whorled phyllotaxy was a more of a genetic anomaly, and trifoliate was a characteristic leafset for certain plants. (Obviously not cannabis.) I'm probably wrong, though... where's Stinky? I bet she could clear this right up. She's able to explain these things with big fancy words, using logic and research... all I can do is guess.
