When a decision is taken, the univesre does not branch itself in two, one for each choice. Both universes, one for each choice, are already there. When we make a choice, we just choose what universe (from the two possible) we will percieve, and what universe we will ignore.
I dont think the potential of the universe really matters. Every decision made by every person on this earth is just a small portion of the make up. While we sit searching for the answers of why we're here, we easily forget that it doesn't matter because we ourselves are equally a part of it, just as the aliens 1000 billion light years away on the planet ringworm are a part of it too. A decision is just as affective as a rock at the bottom of an ocean.
