I have a reasonably small area to grow, but not too small...what are some good lamps that do not require hooks...so far im using a simple desk lamp for my plant, its about 5 inches tall and looks great...however pretty soon the plant will be too big for a single 26 Watt CFL

I use envirolite 125w. You can also get a 250w. If your gonna grow with flouro rather than MH or HPS make sure you get your bud sites as close to the bulb as you can withouit burning them throuout their life. about an inch. You'll never get a whopper yield but you can get a reasonable amount of tight bud and quite good yields with a bit of practice.
Envirolites come in the blue spectrum for vegging and the red for flowering unlike MH and HPS which are good for both.
There is a nack with flouros that you will develop and it's basically the art of training the plants throughout their growth cycle to be as close to the bulbs as poss for maximum light.
Good luck!
