First Time Grower, Need a bit of help.

hello everyone, first time grower, well planning to be.

need a bit of help if its possible for someone to answer some questions for me, i know theres lots of guides etc but they all seem to be different.

basically im growing in my wardrobe, its completly empty, wooden. the growing space will be about 3-4 foot height, width about 1-2. i only intent to grow a few plants 2-3.

so i'm thinking using a few flouresent lights, on a chain system so i can adjust the height etc. will one cool bulb, and one warm bulb do the trick? and what wattage should they be?

i understand what soil i need to use so i dont need help with that, now ive been reading using silver foil is a bad idea, so im too paint the area white, so i just need like a plain white undercoat?

i dont want it to get 2 hot in there for fire risks etc, so using a little fan would be a good idea, will it need to be cold or warm air?

if anyone could help me out then that would be great, also if anyone has some really good simple explained guides they could direct me 2 please post them.

Hey bro, well those are good interesting questions, that a newb should always know.

First of all the space is alright, for the amound of plants you are planing to grow. The aluminum foil is not a bad idea it has worked for me perfectly, but youll get tons of different opinions about that one.

Second the lighting if you are willing to use fluro bulbs, you can use spring kind, those are the ones that youll find with a higher wattage, if you are planning into using 2, try to find 2 55 watts, one cold light and one warm light. You wont need a fan it wont get too hot, fans are good for HPS or MH or MV systems, also for incandecent lights, but fluros dosnt get that hot at all.

if the space is 4 foot height the lights would be ok if they are set up at the top of it, you dont need chains for this this kind of bulbs they are not heavy at all

hey thanks for your reply, the reason i thought using the chain system is because in the first stages i was under the impression the lights have to be about 4 inches from the plant?

urban legends i would say, you dont need to... it wont make the plant grow faster...
and the best guide is to follow the common advices and try and retry... remember all newbs allways over something...

i overwaterd plants like you got no idea.... finnaly i got it how to do it right... =)

likewise i am in my very first grow from seed.......here goes

aluminium foil is pretty good to use......you don't need to paint the walls white.....just use it from the dull/dump side....otherwise you will create hot spots that are going to burn the leaves of the plants.....aluminium foil reflects around 75% of the light that it receives...
secondly, i would suggest to buy a 150 watt HPS and with the use of the chains you can adjust the height while the plants grow..floros are ok but they don't emit such big amount of lumens.....
finally, use a fan blowing directly cold air on to the plants because a)it will get hot will the HPS lamp and b)it will help them grow faster&stronger ..... don't put it on max speed though....you don't need a wind like a typhoon, just a wind that shakes their leaves and at the same time circulates air

that would be good if he was growing more, he is only growing 3 plants... so the fluros are great and cheap, the aluminum foil is great, it reflects light exactly how its supposed to, you want your plant to get light even from the walls, if it makes a small dot and burns it BUUUHUUU it wont kill your plant, and the whole oposite itll give your plant more liht to keep doing the photosyntesis... belive me its good and i got experience

thanks for the replies guys, i think im just gonna go with the flouresents for my first grow, i dont want to be spending all out on expensive lights when it cud all go 2 shit.

another question i would like to know is what would you suggest the best strain which is high yield, and wont grow amazingly high but grow outwards. also a good seed site which i can aquire them from which is well known not to fuck you over....

i can't really suggest a good site as i suppose that you live in the states, others can help you with that......in your first question though i can advice you to grow an indica dominant cannabis strain which matures faster than sativa and does not grow as tall as sativas.....unfortunately i can't really suggest you a high yielder as my experience in this area is somehow limited but from what i have read around so far it seems that NL (northern lights) are among the favourite indicas dom. of the people who grow indoors....hope i helped you

mmm let me think well i would get dutch passion, wich are great strains, and maybe some White widow but i wouldnt know... i think that is all up to you, check out for the prices, since its gonna be your first grow it may be bummpy.. so maybe a cheap choice would be better like nirvanas strains, from there seedsdirect

I hate to voice the dissenting opinion but, anything is better than foil. Why not use mylar? If you don't want to buy a big roll, you can go to one of those party supply or store that sells gift wrapping paper they usually have small sheets of mylar and its not much more than foil. Or you can always use that white plastic sheeting many growers are now using although its a little pricey for my tastes.
I suppose that foil is better than nothing. Bottom line, if it works for you thats all that matters.
