I think they're still as applicable today as ever- the list of 'new' ones you posted are all in fact arguably extensions of the originals, although as a good Liberal I'll abstain from that argument when stem cell research or birth control get brought up... Here's my take on it:

The original deadly sins in blue and their modern counterparts in red:
1. Pride
Let me change 'Pride' to 'Hubris', which is the real sin as the Greeks had originally seen it, and put down these modern deadly sins, which are essentially humans playing God and controlling their own reproduction and changing their world in ways their almighty Creator had never intended:
1. ``Bioethical' violations such as birth control
2. ``Morally dubious'' experiments such as stem cell research
4. Polluting the environment

2. Envy
Can this be lumped in with Greed in modern times since they boil down to such similar vices?

3. Gluttony
This one's easy!
3. Drug abuse

4. Lust
Oh here is another sin that #1 can be linked to...
1. ``Bioethical' violations such as birth control

5. Anger

6. Greed
It's easy to find ways that greed as a sin is more pervasive in our consumerist society than at any other point in history. The focus on accumulating material posessions, rather than simple survival and raising a family, is very much snowballing in modern times
5. Contributing to widening divide between rich and poor
6. Excessive wealth
7. Creating poverty

7. Sloth

The more things change... the more they stay the same!
