You would lose only a nominal amount, and probably no more than a name-brand Cool Tube, or any other glass enclosure.

as gaines said, it will block a minimal amount of light, but not much more than any commercial one.

but by having the tube, your bulb can get much closer to the canopy, which provides more intensive light to the leaves.

just out of curiousity which is better in terms of cooling:

    1. A cool tube (either home made or store bought.

    2. An enclosed air cooled hood.
DISCLAIMER: I do not know how to grow/cultivate cannabis. All posts made by me are fictitious in the form of role playing a cannabis cultivator.

The act of role playing is acting out a story/game. In this case I am participating in a Role playing game, or an RPG, of Cannabis growers.

None of this is Real and I reitterate I have no expierence with growing or using cannabis.

It really depends on your setup. The only real difference is that with the hood, it's (hopefully) distributing the light more evenly across your canopy.

I've tried both....cool tube can get a bit closer to your plants and has good lighting to the side of the plant depending on the reflector you use with it. . It DOES increase the heat of your growroom if you use mylar. I ended up having to paint my mylar white when I switched to a cool tube. A regular a/c hood directs the light downward as gainesville but I've also found that to help control the heat in the growroom as well. Kind of a weird paradox there.

Flat paint, always. A good, flat white paint is more reflective than mylar, easier to maintain, cheaper, longer-lasting, etc.
