As for what type of shoot to clone, this is awfully later to be cloning but in general, you pick a vigorous shoot with several nodes, that has not grown 'bark' yet (=softwood cutting). In flower, you would only want to take LOW branches for clones to avoid screwing with the hormone distribution in the flowering plant and possibly stressing it, plus most yield comes off the higher colas.

So that being the case I was considering making clones and starting over with them, but this time I would keep them topped which is what I should have done the first time (this is my first real grow).
