DWC Maintenance?
Just started doing DWC two days ago. I ran out of room in my Ebb and Flow setup and my plants became root bound and started dying, but they seem to be loving it now.
I've got 9 plants sharing a 50 gallon res at 1100 PPM and 5.6-6.2 PPM. I've got three bubble curtains glued to the bottom. What kind of maintenance do you guys do as far as cleaning and changing the res and how often do you do it?
Any help is appreciated!:jointsmile:dejayou30 Reviewed by dejayou30 on . DWC Maintenance? Just started doing DWC two days ago. DWC Maintenance?
Deja I tend to "trade water out" rather than doing entire res changes. I'll dump some of the older stuff and and add some new....but rarely when they get big do I dump EVERYTHING and whip up a new batch.
Keep a close eye on your water level......these guys will suck that down like you wont' believe which mean you'll be adding water and/or nute solution fairly regularly to keep the level up where you want it. This will also help keep your nute solution from becoming too old.
Believe me....your nine plants will eat ALOT!
Glad they like it.

DWC Maintenance?
deja,
I have to agree with Weedhound...I do about the same thing, except I change my containers each week, sometimes 2 weeks if I forget about them.. keeping some of the "old" water in the bottom of the container. This helps get/keep things going with the bacteria and essential goodies in each container. Much like changing your water in a fish tank, one never takes all the "old" water out when doing a water change/cleaning of the tank...this keeps things healthy the same way...
Peace,

DWC Maintenance?
Magoo I do full water changes on my plants (pretty much the way you mentioned) until they get to a certain size....then its more hassle so I stop.
I don't think it's bad at all to change your stuff once a week....go for it!!
PS.....But I like my way toooooo.....

DWC Maintenance?
Thanks everyone for the replies! The only question I have left is - What about flushing? Do you clean it out completely then? What PPM is your usual flushing res? Both times I used my tap water which is 350 PPM. I let it run a few days until the PPM levels off and then refresh it, but my buds still burn thick and black rather than a fine ash and the taste, while not bad, leaves me something to be desired. Any advice that anyone could give me would be great!
Oh, and the first time I flushed 7 days (2/5) and the second I flushed for 10 days (3/7) and had about the same result.

Deja.....the MK just does that .......it's never mattered how much I flush mine.....they leave a heavy coat of thick black resin all over EVERYTHING. That's why I really hate (and keep growing
) Master Kush.

WH - See my log for a specific question. I don't want to get this OT.
I have FloraKleen and have actually used it to flush both grows; I forgot to add that in. The last time I used it I had this weird transluscent goo in my res, which I suspect was from the FloraKleen so I don't know if I want to use it again.
