I looked at them tonight but didn't pay too close attention to price but they are like $10 or less around here

Depends. One hitters are around $10, and glass chillums that are super premium made to compete with $50 and up pipes go between $20 and 30. Look for one that feels solid, but not heavy. A medium weight chillum is pretty indestructible. At least mine is.

I've got a couple 'bats' that are both high-end- one with iridescent layers, delicate raked-glass string work, a lanyard loop, and acid etching that was $25 US, and another with a very heavy inside-out casing, fritwork, and beads that was $30 direct from the glassblower.
Chillums are easy to drop so IMO a pretty heavy one is desirable if you plan to carry it around with you.

    as an update:

I paid 18.95 for a good quality hand blown chillum and 7.95 for one of those chillum one-hitters that look like a cigarette.
