it totally depends on how extreme you get.

If you are talking about the electricity bill, depends on how many watts you're using.

what is the average cost of a average hps grow?

an example of an electric bill.

I have a 400 watt hps that runs 12/12 (12 hours on.. 12 hours off) and pay 11 cents per kwh.

With that said we need to first get the kw rating on the hps.

    400/1000 = 0.4

    0.4kw * 12 hours = 4.8kwh

    4.8kwh * 30 days = 576kwh/month

    576kwh * .11 cents = $63.36

My hps I bought from a shop online and it was only $170 (It came with a 400 watt hps bulb as well as a 400 watt mh conversion bulb.).

Then there's soil... I paid $15 bucks for a package of promix and another 15 bucks for a package of fox farms ocean forest (I'm not counting the numerous bad soils I've purchased before).

Then there's nutes. You can cheap out here or really invest some money. Here are mine.

    Age old Grow - $14
    Age Old Bloom - $14
    ph Up - $8
    ph Down - $8
    Botanicare bloom booster - $20
    Sweet - $20
    Blackstrap unsulphered molasses - $3

    Then there's random crap:

Cost of building a grow cabinet - $40
Cost of mylar - $25 for a massive roll of it
Cost of ph Pen - $60 (could've got it cheaper if I bought online.)
    Cost of box fans (2) - $20
cost of circulatory fan - $10

So far the total is $505.36 which includes my monthly electrical cost on the hps.

This doesn't include my mistakes (which probably include another $200 in mistakes) and not including the cost of buying tools (about another $100) or things I may/may not be forgetting.

Cost of seeds is not in there as well.

You can definitely do it cheaper than me. I think you can do the entire setup for $300 if you shop around.
