starting new grow project
hi everyone, im a long time reader, first time posting. im about to start my first grow and i had a few questions before i got started. i will be growing some bag seeds from some good bud that i have collected over the years. im going to plant them in soil and maybe my next grow i will move on to hydroponics. i was wondering if its ok to put an air pump at the bottom of the pot so that the roots can get some air. i know that it is necessary for hydro. it would seem to me that it would encourage root growth but im not sure. also a buddy of mine told me that every time i smoke i should blow the smoke on the plant because it will be more potent. any truth to this myth? also i will be growing indoors for vegetation i was wondering will it be better to flower outside? im only using a 150 hps. its just gonna be one or two plants for my personal use. i would appreciate any input or tips from you experts.

Skip the air pump in the bottom of the pot, theres no need because soil is porous and allows air to flow threw it. I also can't see blowing smoke on a plant doing any good, if anything harm. Smoke is full of boat loads of toxic chemicals, if you were to blow smoke on your plant you would be exposing it to those chemicals. Plants are living things too.
As far as growing inside vs. outside you could start your plants inside and then move them outside for the rest of thier lives through summer and fall.

one more question can a 600 watt hps light take a 400 watt bulb? the reason i ask is because eventually i will have a growbox big enough it but i dont want to spend money on a 400 watt system and then a 600 watt system

Nope! The bulb and ballast must be considered a single unit. They go together and are NOt interchangeable!
If you intend to buy only a single HID, go for a 600watt switchable ballast or a 600w HPS and then plant to veg under flourescents.

your going to put an hps in a grow box? im no expert but i was just talking to the guy at the hydro store yesterday and he said the bulbs get to 200 degrees, im assuming fahrenheit. he said i would have to keep it like 3 or 4 feet above my plant

yeah i will have a few plants in a grow box that will be built in my garage. the grow box will have an exhaust fan so the heat should be no problem. i decided to go with this light High Tech Garden Supply unless someone has had any problems with this light. it seems to be the best bang for the buck
