I occasionally take melatonin in the form of a 3mg supplement. It works as a great sleeping aid and if you have the occasional insomnia like I do, this will work better than sleeping pills in my opinion which would leave you groggy in the morning. I actually get a very restful sleep with slightly more vivid dreams when taking melatonin before bed and I also wake up feeling quite refreshed! I would not say this has any recreational value at all nor would suggest that method anyway. Experiment with your dosage because a normal 3mg dose may be too much for some. 1.5mg usually is a good place to start and work from there until you get to sleep
