question
i am interested in buying a vaporizer but i am afraid it might be a waste of money. i smoke around 3 grams a day n haven't gotten "stone" in ages. now i use pot to help with anxiety and sleep issues but i am noticing that pot is doing very little these day to help. I tryed a cheap vaporizer and found it to be a waste (one of those heat plate w/ a dome type). i have a little extra cash and wondering if getting a vaporizer would help

question
Vaporizing is well worth it for a lot of people, including me. A lot easier on the lungs, especially if you've been smoking for 20 or 30 years. The effect is a little different with vapor. Part of the effect with smoking is a good dose of couchlock, and a large part of that is due to poisons produced by high temperature and combustion. So vapor is a cleaner high.
A lot of vape fans say they use a lot less than with smoking. Since I can't tolerate much smoke, I actually use more now with vaping. I've heard some say their first experience with a good vape was the highest they've ever been. I well remember mine. :vap_smiley: I know I'll never miss smoking, but everybody's different.
I think you do need some kind of motivation to switch from smoking. It takes a little more time and effort. But if you can afford 3 g. a day, I think you can afford to try a vaporizer. Who knows? You might love it.

I was in your same situation of being unhappy with the plate design (though it works great for kif and hash)
I bought a cheap digital one on ebay and I had never been so high in my life. I really like it and will probably cut back on certain types of smoking (IE large bongs) as this will be my at-home setup probably.

The most important thing you can do is RESEARCH! There is tons and tons of good info on this forum and abroad. Even google is great.
I did a crap load of research and there are definitely a few vaporizers that are above the rest. Pay attention to longevity, quality of product, and avoid the ones that are "gimics". Look for something with good materials and a good warranty in case something goes wrong.
Good luck

question
the way I looked at it was this
I could buy a vapor bros for like 200 (at local headshop)
or I could buy 3 of these cheap ones
and then they should probably last at least as long (3 vs 1)

I'd avoid the cheap, made in China box vapes. You can't trust how the guts are put together and with what. The VaporBuddy (VaporGenie rip off), made in China, has been found to be painted with lead paint, in the bowl area too.

Just to put things into perspective. Your whole house if full of formaldehyde. That stuff is really bad for you and it's in 90% of all furniture made and about 1/2 of all construction materials.
It is hard to make a vape purchase sight unseen but I've been really quite happy with my cheap chinese "Vapor-Tech" though longevity is truly a concern. I figure that if this blows up, I'll get a nicer one and thus have a spare whip. Though there's only like 6 parts electronically in this, you could probably replace the worn out pieces.
