Really, I don't feel like I'm some young guy in the prime of his youth. I don't have any interest in dance clubs and parties, youthful pop culture, picking chicks up at bars, or generally doing things that energetic young people do. My hair is a salt and pepper mix of white and black. My spine has degenerative arthritis and I have more aches and pains than most old guys. I'm already Rating: 5

Dont worry, not everyone lives in this mainstream pop culture mtv world. I dont like large parties or bars either. Im more into get to gethers with friends and shit. I dont like to live in some pattern or what society thinks "norm". I like to be a little free. I focus on things I wanna do and I do them. I could give a fuck less about what hollywood or a bunch of music makeing cocain king pins on MTV got to prove. I dont live that life style.

My hair is a salt and pepper mix of white and black. My spine has degenerative arthritis and I have more aches and pains than most old guys. I'm already noticing how worn and old my face is starting to look. I already feel that I've accumulated the stresses of a lifetime. Kids have no damn respect these days, and I notice.
I don't want to go skateboarding, or have fun at a party; I just want to sit on the porch with a beer or some tea beside me, a good book to read, and some music and a smoke in-between chapters. I'm supposed to be starting my life, but I feel more than ready to retire.

Maybe it's because I've been essentially crippled for 6 years, but inside I know I'm an old geezer, I just feel it. Anybody else know what I mean? Or am I just an anomaly?
That sounds dead on like me Bro,But I'm 31.I got Arthritis in my back and The cartiledge between your vertabraes,I got some torn ones and 2 are almost gone.Doctor says its from all the years of Working hard labor and being Big.Even in my 20's or infact ever,I never really was attracted to the club scene or cruisin for chix.I just loved to chill at home, drink or burn.I would rather Burn and watch movies at home than go to the bars.

I know how you feel since I have had arthritis since I was 14. The pain in my back really started when I stopped growing at 6'3" tall at 17.
Now I am 45 and it hurts so bad to get out of my chair sometimes that I just don't get up for hours on end.
I still work too and after I install an engine into one of the bikes I am working on, only vicodin helps me so I can move.
I took so much Ibuprofen that my stomach lining is gone and hunger causes agonizing pain in my stomach.
Shit man, I am only 45 years old and I feel like I am 85 waiting to die.
I have hepititis C and I think my liver is finally giving up on me because it hurts sometimes so bad that I get buckled over and can't move.
Yeah, I know how you feel, and it sucks. But, the good thing is you aint alone.
Misery enjoys company but, fuck misery because I am only 45 and have another 20 years ahead of me to still be useful and have fun.

I always say "if you die miserable you're only making the bastards who don't like you happy", why would you want to do that ?

Aging is 'sold' as fun to youth because they have the benefit of physical growth, feeding the fake invincibility trip most youth are on. Coupled with the lack of free rights for youth, We are 'sold' adulthood as a endowment, not a right on its own. Youth are turned against the "Authority" they become. Then the lack of power felt as adults leads to depression or surrender to the status quo or at least inner reflection such as you are having, imo. Whichever, in our society all reactions are impotent so far.
It's a brilliant form of self-policing that is bit hook-line-and-sinker by most adolescents in their life-decision making years, the pressure "to-'be'-whatever-in-life" is enormous. As you seem to be one who isn't drawn to the magnetic center of the status quo, be thankful you have a little free will exercised.

And the Masses will always make the Fringe feel marginalized, it's part of the self-policing policies in our 'democratic society'

    Democracy=Mob Rule.

I'm 40 but most think I'm 30 or so. And really, We're all toast before you know it. Life is sooo short, and the older i get, the more I cherish what I experience, without holding it up to the cultural inspectors to approve of.

The only reason I could ever go to a bar these days would be to play music, but bars are life-and-inspiration-sucking-pits-of-sorrow-and-alcohol-advertisements so I'll never miss them even if an ad on the tv says I 'should'. I like supermarket 'hookups' with the girl-next-doors much better than bar-sluts but if its 2 AM and your itching I feel ya......

Sounds like you have the same back problems as I do. I have spinal stenosis & the pain in the legs & lower back can be excruciating!!
I'm on 90 mgs of Methadone daily for pain...along with 1800 mgs of Neurontin...2 mgs of Klonopins for anxiety...& 60 mgs of Remeron for depression.
I'm on Social Security Disability with Medicare [thank God] & am 53 yrs old. I'm retired now, but I hear where you're coming from. If anything happens to my wife [she has advanced emphysema], there's no way I could deal with the 'bar scene' anymore...especially since I quit the booze 8 yrs ago. Nothing worse than being around a bunch of drunks & you're NOT!!
I'd just make my 17 yr old son take care of me in my old age!! :smokin:
