How moist do you like your bud to be?

I like my nugs really airry, soft and fluffy, and very dry... like melt in your mouth, but for weed its like just fall apart and melt into your hand when you just barely grip it to break it up mmmm

I know that you can place a piece of apple or an orange peel into a jar of bud to get the marijuana to absorb moisture, but does anyone know how moist is too moist and allows for the growth of mold? Also, from my experience, grinding the weed up and leaving it in your jar like that creates a large surface area : mass ratio, which allows for greater moisture loss.
