Shouldn't it be illegal to beat and molest your kids then? What's the government going to do, have the police check inside your home to make sure you don't sexually and physically assault your kids?

Well, not really, because these types of cases are based on people outside the house finding out.

I'd say child obesity is far more of a problem endangering many more kids than parents smoking tobacco/pot. I'm not saying that's good to do, but just that it's not as prevalent as over-feeding their kids. You can't expect big-government to solve these issues, it all comes down to quality parenting which cannot possibly be monitored by government.
True, but how you feed your kids is too wishy-washy to enforce. There's no exact science as to what exactly you can feed them, how much, and when to allow them a sugary treat. Smoking is strait-up bad for them each and every time, it's not a necessity like food, and there's no debate as to which smoke is good and which is bad to put into their lungs.

I'm all for keeping government out of the home too, but laws protecting kids are necessary as well. Forcing them to live in a smoke-filled house so their respiratory tract can be fucked the rest of their lives is strait-up neglect and abuse.
