If the humidity is too LOW you will notice symptoms that are usually associated with heat stress. Between 30 and 40% RH is a good range to shoot for.
Leave the fans on. REally.

Depends on what your call low. Below 30% will certainly have a negative effect. Leave fan leaves alone. After trimming bottom of plants for easy maint. I try to leave as many fan leavs as possible, unless they get no light.

That's a little on the low side and you will want to really keep up with your watering- obviously not to the point of overwatering, but don't let them dry out too much because they will show stress REALLY fast.
A flat pan of water in a warmish spot near your fan will help bring your %RH up.

Yes, that will increase the rate of evaporation so if your goal is to build a humidifier, then a bucket of water with a fish tank heater is about as low-budget as ya can get... but it will work.

i put the bucket o' water with the aquarium heater in my flower room last night. it went from about 20% to a little over 30%.

That's excellent, and yeah it probably won't be necessary later- even as the plants get larger, their increased total leaf surface area adds a surprising amount of humidity to the air! I'll bet you notice a rise as they grow.
