    DIY CARBON FILTER ROUND 2

so my first filter i made just didnt seem to cut it. maybe it had an air pocket or maybe i had it too close to the fan and it wasnt scrubbing enough. i dont know but i swear i could smell some buds around my house. now i have a big filter, and it is full of 15 lbs of carbon and a total diameter of 3". so i said i have to change i cant have family or some friends know. right, i could get into some shit.

so one day i was watching an episode of urban grower and saw this nice carbon filter that was a big sealed box with wire drawers that were layers of carbon. of course i cant go and buy one for 1 its too damn expensive for my ass and 2 i couldnt ship it anywhere.

after seeing that episode i knew i had to make the filter because i thought it would scrub better. afew reasons for that is i can control the layers of carbon better. it seems as if the pressure from the fan would equalize more before hitting the filter and be moving slower. and depending on your situation you can make a big scrubber for cheap. and the last reason is you can make it look a hell of alot better

now to make my filter it only took $30 without the carbon. and remember you can use any size home air filter you find at home depot. the bigger the filter the better scrubbing action and bigger box and more equal pressure. i had to go with a 10"x20"x24"h because of where it is. i already think its is working better.

3-1"x2"x8' wood $1each for the frame of the box
3-1/4 ply 2'x4' $5each(or get 1 full sheet if you have good tools)
liquid nails to seal the box
duct tape cause i havnt figured out a good way to get out the filter without the tape.

    enjoy:thumbsup:

im on a 6" vortex rated at 450cfm

when hooking im sucking all the fresh air through my air cooled hood to my fan and it goes out of my fan blowing to my carbon filter. at the top of the carbon filter box is a 6" flange to hook up my exhaust hose(in the last pic you should be able to see part of the metal flange between the box and the wall)

remember you want the air to go across the carbon as slow as possible to get a better scrub

    i love seeing home innovation!!

I have a home made carbon filter also, and im so glad that it got built for $15 total instead of $100 plus for a hydro shop model.

I also attached a pic of it in use. I change the litter once every 2 harvests or so.

If I saw corretly you have a filter over you're light and there is a fan connected to it, so the fan pull the air from the growing room (getting by the first filter) and then push it trought the duct to the other filter (the big box), is that right or am I all lost ?

So you're fan is a 450 cfm but what is the size of the growing room, are you using passive or active air intake ?
    This is my new dream

yeah a 450 cfm 6" vortex(top of line inline or get a canfan, fantech, ect. all about $150+ for 6") and i also have a cheap booster fan for exhaust on my veg cabinet. my veg and drying cabinet exhaust are hooked into the fresh air vent of my flower cabinet and i also have a passive air intake hose for my flower cabinet. i have 2 6"T adapters hooking in all the cabinets together. running my 600 watt light i get no higher than 83 deg temps so far.

the first pic is of all my chambers inside my closet. with the 2 hoses in bottom of picture as fresh air vents for the veg chamber and flower chamber. the chamber are big box in back flower chamber. on the bottom right of pic is veg chamber. on top of that in the white box is my drying chamber and to the right of that is my clone chamber

the second pic is of the exhaust coming out of the drying chamber going down to 1 of the T fittings

and the third pic is of the exhaust hose in the back is the drying chamber and the hose in the front is exhaust from my veg chamber(on my veg exhaust i also have a 6" booster fan to help draw more air through all the hose). both of those hoses meet up at T adapters and go to fresh air into my flower chamber

it sounds confusing as hell but you wanted to know
