What is the penalty for marijuana possession?

I was just wondering what are the penalties for marijuana possession where ya guys live?

I've heard that in places like Austin, TX they write a ticket and only make you pay around $100. How does this work and what is it classified as? Thanks! :thumbsup:

That would be known as writing you a citation, and I believe you have to have less than 3 grams in order for them to write you that. BUT it is at the DISCRETION of the police officer, and if they decide to arrest you, the penalty is 180 days in jail and a $1000 fine.

I am near Austin, and I have known of plenty of people getting arrested for marijuana though, so it's not THAT safe.

I am so glad I live in the UK when I hear of some of the ridiculous sentences for cannabis in other places.
I got arrested for ABH (actual bodily harm) last year and I had two ounces on me at the time so I was charged with ABH and possesion of cannabis and all I got was a formal warning.

Yea legally in extreme situations death,I shit you not. I remember a mate on here posting that and I went to th local legal library (Well my job because it has a legal library with a huge case history database) and found that there are extreme statues in Florida that can subsequently lead to death. Its crazy,zany extemporaneous type things but meah its still the law.Granted it has never truly happened but its still a law that can be broken, for laws are often time markers of destruction and chaos:hippy:

It depends on how much you possess and the laws vary from state to state. I got busted with a quarter and cigarettes (they charged me with pariphanalia for the cigarettes) on a drug free zone. I had 75 dollars in my pocket that I threw away because I didn't want another charge on me, but I got 6 months unactive probation. The sentencing court date was on 4/20.
