you should never water the center of your plants when they are young as it will rot the stalk, i always water around the edges as that will help the roots streatch for the water and streatching roots means growing plants lol

Saturate the entire medium and ensure there is a sufficient amount of run off so there is less salt build up.
Never should you have to water more than 3 or 4 times a week. :stoned:

I have found that the quicker you go from wet to dry the better. I water once every 2 days, By then my plants have drunk all there water and have dry soil. If my plants haven't drank all there water then I assume theres a problem.

)20 inches,agreed
Bob must be high, dont saturate the whole medium, tis not good, specially for youngins....if your medium is constantly saturated,it can slow growth,or even deprive roots of oxygen causing root rot which can lead to a short death after, bob is a complete moron..altho he could pry grw a ok plant at the maximum, lol. As a general rule of thumb just water lightly at the base of the plant ,and re water when the top layer is almost dry or dyed out,...plants wont grow good if soils constantly saturated, they need to penetrate and reach for water as they grow, good luck.

I saturate my medium until I have about 1/4 cup of run off out of a 3 gallon pot. Some people would even get more run off than that to ensure there are no dry pockets.
My plants are doing wonderfully.

he never said how old the plants were, but of course youngins get a whole different type of care with anything. But I agree with Bob... Saturate the medium but don't go overboard, or keep it like that all the time.

The medium may be saturated if you have met the conditions of potting correctly:
1) pot is of an appropriate size for the plant you intend to put in it
2) soil is of an appropriate lightness to the temperature and lighting at which your plants are kept (=relative to how fast they use available soil moisture).
3) pot has proper drainage
This is enough flaming out of 'best' greenthumb.
